Honorary International Member of Beta Sigma Phi - Elizabeth Witmer
Elizabeth has been a member of our local community for many years.
She was a member of the Ontario Provincial parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo from 1990 until April 27, 2012.
Among her many duties over that period, she was Minister of Education and Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition.
She left office in 2012 to assume the Chair of the WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) of Ontario.
She continues in the role to the present time.
Elizabeth's career began as a high school teacher (12 year)
Following this time, she was elected to the Waterloo County Board of Education in 1980, eventually serving as Chair in 1984.
Elizabeth is a wonderful role model for women of all ages.
Over the years she has been the recipient of many honours including Citizen of the Year (Lion's Club of Kitchener) in 2013.
In addition to her career as a politician and now Chair of WSIB, Elizabeth is a wife and mother of 2 adult children.
The following quote is indicative of Elizabeth's beliefs:
"We need to embrace a conservatism that is caring.
Not narrow, but broad; not harsh but kind; not divisive, but inclusive...
Help me show Ontarians that common sense and compassion go hand in hand."
It is an honour and a privilege to have Elizabeth Witmer as our International Honorary Member of Beta Sigma Phi.
